Treatment of Dredged Silts
Soils washing and stabilization techniques are equally applicable to the treatment of dredged sediments from polluted canal, river and harbours.
The combination of clean material recovery, mechanical dewatering and sludge solidification provides the potential for significant cost savings.
The dredging can be carried out from pontoon mounted excavators and barges or traditional cutter suction equipment.
Ex-situ Chemical Oxidation
Ex-situ chemical oxidation is the process of adding an oxidizing agent into the soil matrix in order to break down organic contamination.
The most common application is for the removal of chlorinated solvents, however it can also be employed as a pre-treatment of soils heavily contaminated with TPH and PAH prior to a standard bioremediation.
HBR mixing plants incorporate feed systems, which are suitably resistant to the corrosive nature of oxidizing agents and capable of the control and collection of gasses produced during the reaction.
Permanent Containment
HBR can design and construct containment systems to encapsulate the contamination in the soil and the groundwater by using different techniques.
Vertical techniques used are containment through the use of sheet piles, permeable bentonite barriers, clay barrier walls, biologically active barriers, reactive barriers and funnel and gate systems.
The use of horizontal or complete encapsulation, such as the treatment of redundant landfill sites and other locations with high contamination concentrations affecting groundwater resources is commonly provided with a basal liner of geotextile and HDPE or bentonite polymer enriched sands.
These methods promote the use of long term in-situ remediation processes whilst the receptors (groundwater below or people above) are protected.
